Online Hifz Course (Quran Memorization)

The OnlineQuran24 online Hifz course is a structured Quran memorization program taught in live 1-on-1 video classes, five days a week, for kids and adults who already read the Quran fluently with Tajweed. Each 30-minute class follows the sabaq, sabqi and manzil system: the teacher hears new verses, checks recent lessons, and tests older portions so memorization stays firm.

What is an online Hifz course?

An online Hifz course is a teacher-led program for memorizing the Quran by heart, delivered over live video instead of at a local madrasa. Hifz (also written Hifdh) means preservation; a Hafiz or Hafiza is a person who has memorized the complete Quran: 114 surahs across 30 ajza (parts).

At OnlineQuran24, every Hifz student has one teacher in a private 1-on-1 class. The teacher assigns each day’s portion, listens to the student recite from memory, corrects mistakes on the spot, and keeps a record of what has been memorized and revised. Families choose a male or female teacher, and girls and sisters can study with a female teacher only. Students who want to memorize a single juz or a set of surahs, rather than the complete Quran, follow the same method with a smaller target.

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

“And We have certainly made the Quran easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?” (Surah Al-Qamar, 54:17)

Who can join the Hifz program: prerequisites

A student can join the Hifz program once they read the Quran fluently from the Mushaf with correct Tajweed. Memorization locks in pronunciation, so a mistake memorized early is repeated thousands of times and becomes hard to remove later.

Students who are not yet fluent start with our Noorani Qaida course or online Tajweed classes and move to Hifz when the teacher confirms they are ready. The 3-day free trial is used as a placement check: the teacher listens to the student read, tests a short memorized surah, and recommends either starting Hifz or strengthening reading first.

How does the sabaq, sabqi and manzil system work?

The sabaq, sabqi and manzil system splits every Hifz day into three layers: new memorization, recent revision and long-term revision. It is the traditional method used in Hifz schools across South Asia, and our teachers apply it in every class.

Sabaq: the new lesson

Sabaq is the new portion memorized for the day, from a few lines to a page or more. The student prepares it at home and recites it to the teacher without looking.

Sabqi: recent revision

Sabqi is the portion memorized over the last several days, usually the current juz. Reciting it daily joins the new lessons into one continuous passage.

Manzil: long-term revision

Manzil is the rotation of all older ajza already completed. A fixed amount is revised every day so the whole memorized Quran is reviewed in a regular cycle.

The balance between the three layers changes over time. In the first juz, sabaq takes most of the effort. After several ajza, manzil grows larger, and the teacher reduces the new lesson when revision quality drops. Strong manzil is the difference between memorizing the Quran and keeping it.

What happens in a 30-minute Hifz class?

A 30-minute Hifz class is a recitation and testing session: the student recites from memory and the teacher listens, corrects and assigns the next portion. A typical class runs in this order:

  1. Sabaq recitation (about 8 minutes): the student recites the new lesson; the teacher marks hesitations and Tajweed errors.
  2. Sabqi check (about 8 minutes): the student recites the recent portion; weak spots are repeated until they are smooth.
  3. Manzil sample (about 8 minutes): the teacher opens a random place in the older ajza and asks the student to continue from there.
  4. Next lesson set-up (about 6 minutes): the teacher reads the next sabaq with the student, points out similar verses that are easy to confuse, and sets the home target.

Because the class is 1-on-1, no time is spent waiting for other students. Long manzil portions that do not fit into 30 minutes are recited at home, to a parent, or split across the week.

A daily routine for a Hifz student

A Hifz student needs a fixed daily routine of preparation, class and revision; the class alone does not produce memorization. Most students spend 1 to 3 hours a day in total, depending on age and the size of the daily lesson.

Early-morning revision is when many Hifz students prepare their sabaq.

Classes run 24/7, so the class slot is chosen around school, work and prayer times in the family’s own time zone, whether that is a morning class in Australia or an evening class in the US.

Part-time Hifz for school kids and adults

Part-time Hifz means memorizing the Quran alongside full-time school or work, with a smaller daily lesson and a longer overall timeline. The 30-minute class fits before or after the school or work day, and the rest of the daily work is done at home.

Online Hifz classes for kids

School-age children usually memorize a few lines to half a page per day, with class after school or early in the morning. A smaller sabaq leaves time for homework and keeps revision strong. Children often start with Juz 30 (Juz Amma), where the surahs are short and complete. Parents can sit in on every class. Families with younger children can also read about our online Quran classes for kids.

Hifz program for adults

Adults memorize differently from children: they understand structure better but have less free time. Adult students often set a target such as Juz 30, Surah Al-Kahf, Surah Yasin or a set number of ajza, then extend it. Linking verses to their meaning helps adults retain them, and short revision during commutes or breaks keeps manzil moving. Sisters can study with a female teacher at any hour.

What is the parent’s role in a child’s Hifz?

The parent is the home supervisor of a child’s Hifz: the teacher runs the class, and the parent makes sure the daily preparation and revision happen. Children who memorize successfully almost always have an adult at home who keeps the routine.

How long does it take to memorize the Quran online?

The time to complete Hifz depends on the size of the daily new lesson and on how many days are spent only on revision. There is no fixed duration, and we do not promise one. The standard 15-line Mushaf used in South Asia has about 604 pages, so the arithmetic below shows how daily load changes the timeline.

New lesson per day (5 days a week)New-lesson time for 604 pages
5 lines (one third of a page)about 7 years
Half a pageabout 4 to 5 years
1 pageabout 2 to 2.5 years
2 pagesabout 1 to 1.5 years
Figures count new-lesson days only. Revision-only weeks, exams, holidays and illness add time.

Most part-time students settle between a few lines and one page a day. The teacher raises the lesson size when sabqi and manzil are strong and lowers it when mistakes increase. Progress is measured by the number of pages memorized and the quality of manzil recitation, both shared with the student or parent. After completing Hifz, students can refine fluency and voice in our Quran recitation course.

Online Hifz course FAQs

What is the right age to start Hifz?

A child can start Hifz once they read the Quran fluently with Tajweed and can concentrate for a 30-minute class. Many children reach this stage between ages 7 and 10, but readiness matters more than age. Adults can start at any age.

Can my child do Hifz while attending regular school?

Yes. Part-time Hifz is designed for school students: a smaller daily lesson, a 30-minute class before or after school, and daily revision at home. The timeline is longer than full-time Hifz.

Do I need to know Tajweed before joining?

Yes. Students need fluent reading with correct Tajweed before memorizing. The teacher checks this during the 3-day free trial and recommends Tajweed classes first if needed.

Can I memorize only part of the Quran?

Yes. Students can set a partial target, such as Juz 30, selected surahs or a number of ajza, and follow the same sabaq, sabqi and manzil method.

Is a female Hifz teacher available?

Yes. Families choose a male or female teacher, and girls and sisters can study with a female teacher only.

How much does the online Hifz course cost?
